Casa Loma Mi Amor-a

Happy Labor Day everyone! Unlike (or maybe like) most people, I'm taking the day to cross off my to-do list and finally took the time to edit some photos from my trip to Toronto last weekend. This post highlights one of the most historic maisons in the GTA area - Casa Loma.

The castle is a Gothic Revival style castle with a flower garden and a fountain in the back, as well as some hidden paths down the hill that I'm honestly not quite sure where they lead. The flowers were in full bloom when we visited, and there was even a wedding reception getting set up for the evening.

Three of my favorite parts to explore were:

  1. Climbing the narrow spiral staircase to the towers, which offered a 360 degree view of the city - you could even see the CN Tower from there. (Be ware there may be long lines to get up the towers.)
  2. The city's longest underground tunnel - this was maze-like and gave you the sensation that you were in the 1920s trying to escape the smallpox outbreak... but if you get claustrophobic easily, I would not recommend this to you.
  3. The indoor garden/conservatory room - the marble floor and pairing of dusty pink with dark green was something I wouldn't have pictured as complementary before, but they worked very well in this room.

Major interior design envy.

The formal dining room gave a cigar club vibe with its upholstered circular seating - and oddly enough a what appears to be modern piece of artwork with the Queen on it.
